Butterfly Project

"THE CLOSED TOWN"

Everythimg leans, like tottering,  hunched old woman.

Every eye shines with fixed waiting
and for the word, "when?"

Here there are few soldiers.
Only shot down birds tell of war.

You believe every bit of news you hear.

The buildings now are fuller,
Body smelling close to bosy,
And the garrets scream with light for long, long hours.

This evening I walked along the street of death.
On one wagon, they were taking the dead away.

Why have so many marches been drummed here?

Why so many soldiers?

Then
A week after th end,
A hungry dove will peck for head.
In the middle of the street will stand
An empty, dirty
Hearse.

  1. Nice butterfly! After reading the poem, I would have to agree that the mood of the poem is dreadful. It was very clever of you to use acrylic paint on your swastika. Nice technique. Although, for your figurative language it seems redundant. For example you said, "Walking along the street of death could mean walking along an empty street." I really like the copper wire you use for barbed wire. It's very ingenious and I would've never thought of that.

  2. I like the butterfly. I notice the people with the wire on witch represented the people being caged in. The mood of the poem sad and I really think the butterfly gives you that message

  5. I love your butterfly you did an outstanding job. I can really tell you put a lot of time and effort into making it. I love how you made bodies out of clay and the wires over them showing they were trapped with so many people around them but no one to help. I agree with you on picturing an empty town with no one in sight. Also the picture that you included on the hearse was helpful because I didn't know what it was until I saw it and you explained it. I really enjoyed your creative butterfly.

  6. What a piece of art! You really showed how your butterfly relates to the poem. For example, on the right wing. You showed how the bodies were close to each other like in the poem. This really gives the reader an idea of what the author was witnessing. You also made a great comparing with the coffin and the road to represent the “Street of death.” Over all, you did an impressive piece of art.

  7. Good job on your butterfly overall, though I believed the poem was about a ghetto. I liked how you wrote down different quotes that had importance and explained them thoroughly. The wire holding the clay people down looks great, as does the "street of death" with coffins. In general the use of clay and other materials bring this butterfly together. Nice work!

  8. Your butterfly is great, but I can't agree with your used of figurative language. You thought that "street of death" meant "an empty street" which seems a bit less symbolic and takes away from the effect of that line. I love how you incorporate the coffins on the butterfly to explain "street of death. Your only flaw is that your explaination to "street of death" doesn't match up with what you showcased on your butterfly.
