The Giver - Theme Blog

Based on what I have read from The Giver, Jonas is a dynamic character. In the beginning of the book, Jonas wasn’t informed the real meaning and feeling of the word apprehensive, stated in the following quote, “I’m feeling apprehensive,” (Page 8.) To sum it up, Jonas did not really know about the word apprehensive. Later on in the book, he uses the word love, knowing what love is. The word love was used in the following sentence, “Do you love me?” (Page 127.) This shows that Jonas was actually curious about it, and knows what love is, other than actually knowing what the word apprehensive meant.

Jonas has been feeling more emotions and feelings throughout the book. One of the emotions he had been feeling is anger, and frustration. In the book, the author states, “ ‘I won’t! I won’t go home! You can’t make me!’ Jonas sobbed and shouted and pounded the bed with his fists.” (Page 152.) This proves that Jonas had a type of emotion, and that emotion was, once again, anger and frustration.
